The APRA Uprising in West Java in 1950 Had a Purpose

The APRA rebellion in West Java in 1950 had quite a lot of purpose.  Various parties called the rebellion as one of the bloodiest events in West Java Province. At that time, there was a large-scale murder that took a lot of casualties.

Previously there have been various kinds of attacks. This includes the attack in Sulawesi.  Until 1950 massacres in West Java Province  were carried out.  The attack was led directly by Captain Westerling. He along with APRA (The Fair Queen’s War Figure) along with 800 people viciously committed various kinds of cruel acts.

APRA’s Heinous Rebellion  in West Java

The bloody attack on the victims of the APRIS members was led by Piere Westerling.  It was in 1950 that the attack took place. This was done in January on the 23rd.  Reports say  Westerling has 500,000 troops forming a secret organization.

It was delivered directly by JM Verburgh who is a Police Inspector from the Netherlands. The report was received and said that the secret organization was named Ratu Adil Persatuan Indonesia. The organization has an armed unit. This is called APRA.

The APRA uprising in West Java in 1950 had a specific purpose. When formed, Westerling contacted the Commander-in-Chief of the Dutch Army named Buurman Van Vreeen. The meeting was held by Westerling to talk about the plan of rebellion in the government of President Soekarno.

Finally, when in 1950 , on January 5, Piere Westerling sent his ultimatum to RIS. In essence, he requested that RIS respect states such as Pasundan State. He also requested that RIS recognize that APRA is an armed force and serves as a Pasundan soldier.

However, the ultimatum was apparently not responded to. Eventually, he decided to stage a coup d’etat. Westerling along with his followers shot dead the TNI they found. A number of his troops along with Sergeant Meijer were launched to the city of Jakarta to make arrests against Soekarno.

APRA   Rebellion in West Java in 1950

This massive uprising in West Java province was carried out after Indonesia became independent.  Resistance continued in various places until one day Indonesia really gained independence by its own hands.

However, apparently various disputes or problems occurred after independence was declared.  In fact, the APRA Rebellion in West Java in 1950 had quite a lot of purpose.

  1. Maintaining RIS

Various negotiations have been conducted by the Dutch and Indonesian colonial authorities and have always been the party of the Republic of Indonesia that often gets losses.  For example, when negotiations such as Linggarjati and Renville were held, but it turned out that the Dutch reneged on it.

Various parties conduct guidance on NKRI. However, there are also those who want that RIS must remain. They are supporters of APRA. Supporters of the Unitary State were finally paralyzed by the APRA side

  1. The Netherlands wants to be safe in Indonesia.

The APRA rebellion in West Java in 1950 also had  the goal that the Dutch could survive safely in Indonesia. The existence of these invaders in Indonesia apparently gave great benefits to them. They get funds from the colony to live.

Of course, the benefits are obtained by the Dutch from various fields. The APRA rebellion was also carried out as a way out to maintain its position in Indonesia.

  1. Pasundan Countries Can Be Defended

Negara Federal Pasundan is actually part of RIS.  It is located in West Java Province. The Netherlands made it to support it with people who did not side with NKRI. This was done with a mere promise to the people of Indonesia.

  1. Establishing a Federal State

The APRA rebellion in West Java in 1950 had the aim of establishing a Federal State in the country. This is the main purpose of the establishment of APRA. This is done by killing various important parties to launch the action.

  1. Maintaining its own army

Belanda also wanted to have his own army in his state.  The right to freedom to govern territory. Those who join APRA are soldiers who are not accepted into APRIS because it lacks requirements. So, APRA will be used as the main army in the Pasundan State.

Sadistic Rebellion By APRA

The APRA uprising in West Java in 1950 had a very sadistic purpose. This rebellion left a very deep wound. Bandung is like a dead city in the early 1950s. In the early hours of January 23  , 1950, troops moved to various posts in the city of Bandung.

The soldier was the head of Raymond Westerling, the Queen of APRA. The movement continues to be carried out by APRA forces. They walk, ride moors, jeeps, and much more. The soldiers will carry out rebellions on civilians, seize goods, and carry out various kinds of torture.

The people of Bandung are terrified. All shops are closed. All residents tried to save themselves from the rebel forces. The soldiers continued to disarm everyone encountered on the cimindi road to Cibereum. All the APRIS members they found were killed.

The personnel who were ready to go to their respective headquarters also did not escape their cruelty.  Westerling along with his men was never reluctant to shoot the APRIS soldiers who were led. Not only was it hoarded by being shot, APRIS soldiers were even chopped up like animals.

The violent action they carried out at least 61 TNI soldiers. The APRA uprising in West Java in 1950 with the aim of benefiting the Dutch side had also left 18 civilians innocent. In fact, no APRA members were victimized. This incident makes Bandung become like a dead city.

Confessions from  APRA’s Side of The Event  are Heartbreaking

The very heartbreaking incident in Bandung was also recognized by APRA. The group admitted to carrying out various kinds of sweeps against military figures to civilian figures in Bandung.

In fact, Westerling is indeed eyeing several important figures in West Java Province. These figures include Colonel Sadikin, Lieutenant Soetoko as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Siliwangi Division, and Major Mohamad Rivai as The Chief of Military Information of the Fourth Military Governor of West Java.

The other four are Lieutenant Colonel Sentot Iskandardinata, Lentan Colonel dr Errie Sudewo who is the Chief of Staff of the Siliwangi Division, Sudjono is a  member of the Pasundan State parliament but pro-RI, and Major CPM Roehan Roesli.  The assassination plan was carried out by giving poison to 7 people.

But attempts to kill by mixing poison in their drink apparently failed to take place. This is because one of the members knows the plan from APRA which is very heinous. Finally, they planned to carry out a live shooting. However, it also did not work because each target managed to escape.

APRA’s heinous actions can be a dark history for the Indonesian nation. In the era after independence, various forms of rebellion did occur so as to make Indonesia become shaky. The APRA uprising in West Java in 1950 had the aim of weakening the Republic of Indonesia and destroying its government.
